Only six days to go!
I'm counting down now to Friday next week, when I shall be on board a horse again, with some luck.
I bought a pair of Eskadron cross country boots today. They are neoprene with elastic velcro double straps, with a really hard plastic shell down the back of the tendon. The sort that are straight down the back and then have a little "bulb" for the pastern to "sit" inside.
And they fit my arm absolutely perfectly, with the bulb over my elbow joint! :-) :-) :-)
There's practically no way that I could damage the broken bone with it on, and it feels really good and safe, without impeding what I can do with my wrist or elbow, while covering my elbow completely. SH the engineer is really happy with it. It's actually a better, more effective and much more practical solution than any of the splints that I found online.
And of course when my arm is better I won't have wasted £55 on something I (hopefully!!) will never need again - a horse can wear them :-) :-) :-)
I wore it tonight when I fed them and I felt much happier to be near them with the arm protected. It's doing fantastically well. Pretty much all the swelling and bruising is gone adn I have about 80% of the wrist rotation back. The incision is all healed - it spat the knot in the end of the internal stitching out yesterday - that was funny. Nothing really hurts but I am aware when it's not happy with the weight of something that I try to pick up, so I'm less anxious about overloading it than I was. Touch wood, I seem to have got away lightly.
On top of that, it's Malpas tomorrow and it's been raining hard for days and it's not a ground that is good for riding when its wet, so I'm not even sorry to be missing it.

You are brilliant. I don't think I ever would have thought about using horse boots as a protective splint. And perfect material as protection is the exact function they were built for.
I will warn you yet again...as a good Mom would...to "listen" completely to that weakness and protest you feel in your arm. Bones do take time to heal and you cannot risk undoing some of that healing by doing more than you should!!! Great about the wrist and the movement, though. One of the biggest problems with an injury is muscle atrophy from non-use. Keeping that circulation going is very important, and giving those tendons some light exercise is a plus.
They didn't give you any physical therapy exercises to do? You never mentioned that. Maybe that will come with this next appointment.
it must be something you eat, that keeps you healing so well. all the macdonalds? :-)
OK Mom, I'm not going to ride until Friday.
They didn't give me any physio, they just told me to keep the elbow mobile but not overload it. I'm nt going to need any physio I don't think. The elbow is straight, the muscles are all fine and the rotation increases every day.
Yup, egg muffin for breakfast, big mac meal for lunch and deli nsndwich for tea, with a McFlurry to finish. Current favourite strawberry cornetto flavour :-)))

Bloody good idea with the cross county boots!
Well thankyou Mandeigh, I rather thought so myself :-)
It's working really well and I am happy to pick their feet out with it on.
FIVE MORE DAYS WITHOUT RIDING.
Nearly there!

Must say when I read the first description of the xc boots, I did wonder what was coming!! But certainly didn't have elbow splint in mind! Improvise, Adapt and Overcome...
Thanks for the tips the other night - unfortunately nothing in the post yet...so it will probably come on Monday, about 2 hours after I set off for work and then London! Not to worry though, as I'll get Mum to forward it on to me!
Louise
It'll arive tomorrow Louise, I posted it Friday first class.

Can we have a picture of this "splint" in action? I wonder what your doctors would make of it?
It arrived on Saturday - as it should have done...went to a different house (dopey postie!) - seems to happen quite a bit with our post. Neighbour dropped it off this evening.
Thank you so very much for sending it all to me - it will certainly be useful!
Well we can tell you are the only non-horse person who reads my blog Pandover :-) All the others can picture clearly what the boot looks like on my arm! I'll show it to you when you visit.
I'm going to ask the doc what he thinks on Tuesday.
Glad it got there Louise.
ONLY FOUR MORE DAYS WITHOUT BEING ON A HORSE :-))))
I want a photo too. ANd I know what a X-c boot is ^-^
You are a genius C!
I will think of it next time i hurt myself LOL
OK you win :-)
