Not for the squeamish
Here is a picture of the cut that they made in my arm to fish around and get all the bits back in the right place. I was very knocked back when I saw it, I had no idea until then what a total mess my arm had been in.

and i've been very lucky to get away without something similar on my left ankle again!
can't believe your pain thresholds!
eurgh! That really doesn't look pleasant...but the positive side is exactly what Claire says - if it discourages you from overdoing it then that can only be a good thing!
I'm shaking my head here wondering how you don't find that painful! Maybe I'm a wimp, but I'd probably be out cold on morphine with something like that!!

I read your blog but I haven't got around to making many comments yet Claire - I'm glad you're OK, the fall sounded a bit nasty with a foot still in the stirrup.
Pain wise I am beginning to realise just what a medical anomaly I am. How is it possible to open up a hole that big in my arm, ferret around for two dislocated bones, put them back in their sockets, pick out some mashed bits of bone, get the two ends of the broken one together (as far as they would go with a bit missing), screw a titanium plate to it, and stitch it all back up again - and leave me not even needing to take a paracetamol? It's spooky, isn't it?
I'm counting my blessings though, I dread to think what normal people have to go through.

I'm serious about the bail. email me cptrayes@btinternet.com and I can tell you all the arguments that we have to consider in court. I had one last week where the clerk told the DEFENDING solicitor that he was failing to object to bail conditions that could not be justified. A very unusual situation that one!

Regarding Zip, I am not sure he knew what he was doing.
Did he pin his ears? then did he SLOWLY lift his leg? Did he then kick you?
If so it was a deliberate kick.
IF you did not see the kick coming it was very fast. I would like to think it was defensive without a thought.
I got kicked by a well trained ( very broken) reining mare while I picked her hindleg. She fell asleep, then woke up and kicked off in surprise.
IMO Zip kicked you off by surprise. He did not "know" what he was doing.
Well I hope you get well soon. And good for you to be a medical anomaly, that kind of injury looks VERY painfull ;-O!

Strangely enough, when I broke my wrist it didn't hurt either. Weird. Maybe that part of the arm isn't so bad because there is so little muscle to be injured.
I do think that incision is a good warning for you. That injury was pretty darn serious. I can only imagine what it looks like inside. Nothing to take ANY chances with, Caroline.
Interesting questions from Muriel about Zip. While I am sure he was aiming, maybe he wasn't really conscious it was you, if you startled him out of a "daze" he was in. That would certainly be a better scenario than if he knew it was you he attacked.
Nice try Muriel :-) I know you'd love to let him off the hook folks, but he knew exactly what he was doing! He'd been defying me about putting his hind leg on the stand to rasp his foot. He was wide awake and completely aware of himself and me. He felt me poke his bum and wanted me to stop it. He hesitated for a fraction of a second, long enough for me to realise what was coming, and went for it. He meant to take me out, and take me out he did. I took him for granted, and I won't be doing it again!
