Worn out

I'm rather worn out with the emotion of selling Zippy over the weekend. I keep getting flashbacks about what he looked like when the trainer was riding him. He was absolutely stunning. Completely awe-inspiring. I keep wondering why on earth I want to sell him! When I see him in the yard, I know that he isn't the horse for me. But moving with a good rider on him - well, no one in their right minds would part with him. I shan't be remotely disappointed if he fails the vet. I will simply put his affiliation papers in the post and start collecting BD points on him!

I didn't ride either of the other two. It was horribly windy today and I am so unsettled myself that there was no way we were going to do anything worthwhile. And every chance that I would upset either my new baby just as he is finding his feet, or Jazz just as he is learning to hold his own emotions in check. I am working tomorrow so they won't get ridden then either. I hope to have a vetting date for either Thursday or Friday and get it all settled in my mind.

Whew, what a roller-coaster!

have a few of these .... (((hugs))) .... its never easy letting go, even when you know in your heart that its not the right horse for you. but, should he fail the vetting and you end up collecting zillions of BD points on him then it is what is meant to be - trouble is, no-one has foresight! if hindsight were foresight we would never screw up - but we would lose a whole host of off-the-cuff, seat-of-the-pants chances that make us who we are.

things have a funny way of working out right even if to start with it feels so terribly wrong! - still on that roller-coaster and coming to terms with it!

best of luck hun

So sorry to read your comments, but you were so disappointed when Zip proved to be such an abysmal jumper that the "writing was on the wall." As wonderful as he may be, I think you knew then he was not the horse for you--at least not now. There's still too much fun in riding over those darn fences for you!

Had your aspirations been different, perhaps your decision would have been different, but that is not so. Jazz is proving to be a wonderful dressage horse as well and you can still have some fun with him. Who knows where Radar has yet to go.

Zip is not the right horse at the right time, as simple as that. You thought it through pretty thoroughly. Don't second guess yourself now. You still have two wonderful horses to make you smile.

Hope it all works out for you, either way. You were very smart not to ride when you were so unsettled. It'll be nice to get it all over with, and at least if you do sell him it seems he'll be going to a good place.

I agree with jean, but she puts it much better than I could manage!

Change of subject....what was it you bought from the chemist for ulcers, and how much should I get to try? I'm starting to agree with jean that I should perhaps see if they're an issue for Molly...

Tough descisions...I guess it's the waiting that's the worst, but look at it this way...keeping 3 horses in work is a bit of a task and I've a feeling that Radar is going to keep you busy for a while, not to mention the new dressage star Jazz! I think keeping those two on the road, not to mention all the showing you will be doing with Button moon, phew...you'll be needing a holiday....fancy Tenerife? ;-)

I understand your thoughts, but you made the decision for the right reason, right for you and right for Zip. See what the vetting brings before you wibble on your decision - fate will play its part in what's right for Zip and you.

p.s. I secretly hate the idea of Zip being dressed up in pink and diamante!! Bleugh.

Vetting is not going to happen until Tuesday unfortunately, they can't fit it in until then. If he passes, then there is no way that I would renege on the deal from my side. But if they do, or he fails, then I shall think again.

Jean is right. He is the right horse at the wrong time. If Jazz was sellable at that price, and if Zippy had more of Jazz's utterly loveable personality, then it would be Jazz going and Zip staying. Jazz is a very good dressage horse but Zippy is world class.

Mandeigh's right too, I can't manage three and one of the two HAS to jump (without a lead!).

Tracey, I have a problem with the bling too, but at least he'll be loved and I guess that's all that matters. She'll be a good Mum for him and as Kate says, that's what counts. She's going to keep him shoeless as well.

Claire you need Ranitidine from Tesco or Morrisons own brand. Tesco is cheapest. Feed half the pack in the morning and half in the evening, or split into more feeds if you can feed that often. Bear in mind that it is a sedative as well as an antacid, so calmer behaviour is not necessarily due to ulcers. If you do think it's ulcers (for example if she was kicking her belly or complaining at the girth, and stops) then you need to get hold of Omeprazole, which Jean will give you the contact for. It's cheaper and more effective, though legally you need a prescription. I have also found that Omeprazole makes them sensitised for laminitis, which may be a problem for you.

I'm just off outside now to wrap Zippy in a few layes of cotton wool until next week.

Cheers Caroline - and thanks for the tip about the omeprazole & lami, she's got enough risk from the amount of grass she now has access to....
