A bit of fresh air
Super. Jazz was sound to hack out on the road, so we got a bit of fresh air this morning. He was only mildly spooky about things that less than a year ago would have had him turn for home. Builder's rubbish dumped in a layby. Walls that had been rebuilt where there were green plastic barriers last time. Children he couldn't see, but could hear screaming and shouting in the woods. He's seven soon. By the time he is eight he should be a lovely horse!
Zippy is fine, he looks settled enough and is eating up OK. I know some of you think it's odd that I would part with a horse of his talent, but I don't have my horses for their talent, I have them as friends. They live at home with me. Character wise, he has never been a patch on Jazz, and Mary Lou and I would have one heck of a fight over who has more - Tetley or Jazz, but they are certainly in the same league. I kept Scooby because of his talent in spite of the fact that I didn't like his aloof character, and I don't want to do the same again. Especially not as Zippy's talent is dressage, which I don't enjoy competing at. In a few year's time I may be ready, and if so I'll have to go and find another Zippy then. They do exist, they just cost a lot of money!
Now that Jazz has come back into work it takes the pressure off replacing Zippy and I can get my head clear about what I actually want. There's a nice looking full draft on Horsemart at a silly price, but I don't know if I want a horse that solid and steady. Last week I'd have gone straight to see it, but this week I think it may just be too steady for me.
Now - guess which horse of the three is the only one who chooses clean grass to roll in and has not had a scrap of mud on him in four weeks? That's right - Butkins!! Who'd have thought it? Not me for sure, though since his coat is three inches thick, I'm incredibly grateful :-))))))))

Not sure how I'd feed about a talented horse with "attitude" in my barn. I sure know I have one with "attitude" and not a lot of talent. *G* Still, I find something quirky and appealing about Tucker and I do know he actually likes me.
The only person in the world who has a right to make a judgment about what horse you should own is you. I respect that.
I'm sorry Zip is not the horse for you, of course as I admire dressage talent so much myself, but that's not what you want to do with a horse. Someday, yes, but even then Jazz is certainly not without a ton of potential in the dressage arena himself.
Maybe steady and safe is what you should be looking for as an event prospect? Again, it's up to you and you now yourself and your needs far better than I do, but these crashes have been worrisome. At least look for super reliable! *S*
I much prefer riding Jazz's power than Zippy's elegance. I know Zip is a "better" horse, but my body fits Jazz better than it fits Zip.

Yup, I think an Irish Draft cross is just the thing. Hmm, I wonder why I think that? You are the best judge of character as I have never even met Jazz. However, of all the horses that I have known Tetley by far has the best character.

I love the hunt too tracey, such good fun isn't it!!?? I've already got a chestnut with white socks and don't want another. The dark bay is lovely but far too far for me to go and see him and I would prefer a bigger horse than he is.

ML it's funny, Tetley is 3/4 warmblood and only 1/4 ID but it makes all the difference in the world.
