Slowwwwww improvements
We went showjump training again and Jazz had a lot more energy than last time. I have increased his food by a kilo because he is looking much leaner as he gets fitter. Most of it is tighter muscle, he has the same amount of fat as he did. He has grown a bit too, so he needs more food right now.
He was better than last time but he is still unhappy at any new jump. "New" meaning one he has not seen that day before. But I am learning all the time how to get the best out of him. I have to use a lot of supporting leg, not drop his mouth but keep a very steady hand, and keep him in perfect balance in front of the fence. Piece of cake, eh????
Anyway, must go because Nic Barker is hear and we are boring Superhubby witless talking about nothing but feet. She has however already seen Zippy trot and says that there is no doubt that his movement is spectacular and that she's never seen a horse move that well in her entire life. I have to say I was pretty gobsmacked myself - his movement gets better the stronger he gets. By the way Jean the string test says he will end up 17.1 or more - he currently has endless legs!! I must get a photo.

You can borrow my stepladder anytime. *G* Actually I have a three step mounting block that is just about right for getting on Tucker who is darn close to 17h. (I measured him the other day and he topped over the 16.3h marker.)
Something will click with Jazz to get him confident about new jumps. At least I hope so. It would make for an interesting cross country if he stopped to check each one out along the way. That'd be Toby, which is why I never tried to make a jumper of him.
Which trainer did I work with who said the secret to jumping was getting the horse to the fence, not the jump itself. Sounds as if keeping the contact and all the aids on works towards that more than anything.
Slow progress is better than no progress.

Getting him to the fence is definitely right Jean. If we get there in balance and straight then he will always jump it. It can be difficult to do that if he has decided strides away that he doesn't like the look of it :-)
Yes, better than last time when neither of us really were Claire!
