'Orrible day
It's a horrible day here today so all the peeps went straight out into the field this morning. I didn't want to school Tia again and no-one else is fit.
Good news on Jazz though I think. He is still hopping lame, but there is a suspicious looking raised bump in the dead centre of his coronet band. There's a tiny spot there which if you get the right place and press it, he snatches his foot away big time. This lends an awful lot of weight to my theory that he gave himself concussion laminitis by galloping two miles on the road. Scooby's real laminitis also gave him an abscess in one front foot and it broke out exactly where the lump is on Jazz. I am a lot happier after this development. I was beginning to wonder about broken bones and planning xrays. If it has not burst out by the time he comes in tonight then I will soak his foot all night in a boot, to weaken the skin and help it out.
Tetley has put on so much weight so quickly that I am cutting his food down to 4 kilos a day and may even need to reduce it to 3. His body is obviously in the kind of state that starved people get into - a low metabolic rate, on the alert to use every calorie that comes its way. He is extremely well, perky, happy and has not weaved once in the last six days, even when I take the other three out and leave him on his own in the barn in the morning.
Zip is being very cheeky in the mornings these days. He's taking advantage of me having my hands full by diving into stables that don't belong to him so that he can have a nosy around !! I had him and Jazz in Jazz's at the same time this morning, and it was tricky to get Zip out without losing Jazz too. Cheeky blighter!
I have put Tia up for sale on Horsemart. She has to go this spring anyway, and if she goes earlier rather than later she will reduce the pressure on me. I have some interest from a teenage eventer which I hope might come to something because that's exactly what I wanted for her. The girl already has two pony geldings, probably her outgrown ones, so that is a very good sign. I have described her as TBxID because that's exactly what she looks like now, and it will encourage people to come and see her. When they do, I will of course explain that her breeding is a complete mystery.

Disappointed in your Tia decision, but I fully understand. It would be hard for me to let go of a good horse, but your circumstances and ambitions are different. I hope she gets a good home and an owner who appreciates her.
As for Zip, I think he is definitely too full of himself--like Tucker--and figures he can just charm his way past your rules. *G* I love a smart horse, but sometimes keeping ahead of them can be a challenge. Right now, I do believe both Chance and Tucker are mischief makers at my place. Somebody has figured out how to pull out fence rails purely for entertainment value. *sigh*
The "touring" the barn to check out everybody else's space is another one of those "fun" activities, as much for the general adventure as the fact that it usually sets one's owner into a furious tizzy trying to sort things out. I can see Zip laughing at your contortions trying to keep things under control. Don't sell him short. Make sure the you don't leave the keys in the lorry or one day he will take it for a spin. *G*
if tia goes, who'll referee amongst the boys? couldn't help but giggle at thoughts of zip & jazz in same box....
Ahh be sad to see Tia go but I do understand.She'd be great for a teenager,safe fun horse..hope it works out!
I know all about having a clever mischief maker..Polo def falls into this catergory!He used to block his 'mate' in the field shelter then stand looking at you as if to say "what??im not doing anything!"
Escaping's his speciality..he's been known to crawl under fences or just sit on them to make them collapse(well jumping would be too much like hard work!)..Needless to say im not always the most popular person with YO's.:0

I asked around on a forum I lurk on about Beckbrook. Got this in a pm:
"People leave due to being promised food and the horses not receiving any! Hence the locks on the feed doors and hay barn.
I have a local friend who used to go up there to ride ladies eventer and the horse was never ready despite supposedly being on full livery and they knew full well that the rider was due up 3 times a week! That owner removed 4 horses about 1 month-6 weeks ago. The horses weren't thin but then the owner went up daily and brought in her own food for the other 3 not on full livery.
unfortunately they do flashy adverts etc and always have space!!!!! Most of the excellent livery yards round cambridge are full with waiting lists it is silicon valley after all.
Most people leave after usually falling out with Victoria or the delightful husband supposedly been in the military."

Good point Jean! The keys won't be left anywhere near Zip, I wouldn't put it past him either. Pulling rails - get some electrics on them, that'll soon stop them :-)
He was hiding behind Jazz, Claire and every time I tried to get to him he shrank out of sight :-) I eventually ended up hitting him with a lead rope over the top of Jazz's back and putting my arm round Jazz's front to stop him running out when Zip went. It worked :-)
Sitting on fences to break them!! What brains :-)

Well how very VERY interesting about Beckbrook. I wish I'd known that before he went there! And the RSPCA think its a good place because the yard is spotless - shame on them. I am going to write to the council suggesting that her annual veterinary inspection for her local authority licence be moved to January/February and that she be required to strip ALL the horses, not just the ones that work in the school (as the licence requires). She appears to be systematically underfeeding the larger leased horses but not the school ones. And she's been doing it for some time in spite of several different people telling her that the horses are too thin. I've heard nothing yet from the BHS, too early I guess.
