He's fat!
Well, OK, fat is a relative term. But he certainly has a covering of fat over his ribs and his backbone is already beginning to fill in. He's on 5 kilos of cubes a day plus ad lib haylage and all day out on a 10 acre field with plenty of grass. I may cut the 5 back to 4 at this rate, I don't want a laminitis case come spring :-)
Tia - sound as a bell and did some lovely walk/canter transitions. That thin Myler-like mouthpiece bit I have her in, that I originally bought for Jazz, suits her down to the ground.
Zip - being very sweet. Cuddling up to Tetley and mutual grooming over the gate while waiting for the vet.
Jazz - very happy now with Tetley. Lame as a duck. Worse today than yesterday. The fluctuation in lameness suggests pretty strongly that this is an abscess that simply won't burst out yet. I put hoof testers on him and I can't get a reaction, so I don't know where it is. I will give him just a couple more days and then take him off for x-rays. From the way he is walking it is definitely inside his foot, yet there's no heat to speak of. Perhaps just a tad around the coronet band. I am also wondering if he hasn't given himself a nasty dose of laminitic concussion in that one foot from galloping two miles on the road last week. Let's hope for some improvement soon.

I just posted a query on beckbrook at the EE forum. Let's see if there is anyone there who has some good ideas. I also posted a warning about libel.
I love the herd dynamics. What a sweetie Zip is proving to be. It will be great if that translates over to you when you start training him.
Amazing how quickly Tetley is putting on weight. He can't be a really "hard keeper" then. If so, it again accents how much he was deprived at beckbrook.
Jazz's lameness is a worry. I just recall that deep abcess Tucker had and how long it took to resolve. Good luck with it.

I know it can happen, I rode my horse at the weekend and she looked and felt a lovely weight. Last night I took her to a lesson and she felt like an elephant!! And what do I feed her - just hay and a feed balancer - boy that hay is good stuff!!

I can't find it, where did you put it Jean?
He's never been hard to feed, that makes her crime worse. It shows that his body has gone into low metabolic rate "starvation mode" for him to put on weight so fast now.
Jean did Tucker get given antibiotics for his foot abscess by any chance?
Are you sure the elephant just didn't feel like workign Tracey? :-) Pics tomorrow!
