Good result!
Tetley is better today than he was yesterday. I think that this is fantastic news and that it shows that most of his reaction was simply lack of having jumped for ten months. I know that our jumping experiment was not 100% successful, but that would have been a miracle. What we have got out of it is proof that he is nearly better, and a very good indiction that some time before next season he will be completely cured. We didn’t know that before we tried, so the tiny disappointment that he is not ready to event this season (though I’m sure plenty of people would take him out competing as he is now) pales into insignificance given the upside of the test.
We went for a hack today and he was fine. Not quite totally sound but really very close. And very happy.
Tia and I also went out for a hack and yet again I mused at how small I find her to hack out. I swear she is a bigger horse at a competition! Someone wants to see her with a view to buying her next weekend. I’ll let her see them but I’m not keen to let her go, so we’ll just have to see where it leads.
Caddy is fine. His cut is clean and looks well stuck together. He is out with the others without any problem. For some reason he is a lucky horse who is not attractive to horse flies, and the scab is within nose distance for him to swish away the persistent black flies. Six more days and I can cut the stitches if it is fully healed. Nine more days if it’s a bit slow. I might ride him sometime, but there seems so little point right now. When it’s cooler I think I’ll be keener. He’s still troughing food like it’s going out of fashion :-)

Good boy, Tetley. Glad to hear you are sensitive enough to his needs to be conservative with competing, though it is easier when you have another horse to ride.
I agree: "The Boys" spend many hours conspiring as to how to keep me busy. As does Mother Nature. With all the rain I have weeds and grass enough to keep me mowing and weekwhacking for days.
Have to laugh about Caddy still and his appetite. He sounds so much like a teenage boy. The wound should heal quickly if the flies leave it alone. We do have something called SWAT that repels flies from injuries. Better than using sprays that might irritate it. Sometimes petroleum jelly can help too. Hopefully it won't need any extrordinary measures.
"Little Tia" has a great big heart. That's what you feel at the competitions.
I've watched Caddy and the cut carefully and the flies just aren't interested in him - isn't that interesting? I wonder what it is about him that puts them off??
I set my rules on competing Tetley that the jumping could make him stiff evenly, but not unlevel. It made him unlevel, so although he is already nearly back to normal I just don't feel it's right to compete him. You are so right about it being easier when you have another horse. That's why I called Caddy my insurance policy!
