Early birds but no worms
Tetley and I got back from our 1 ½ hours of hack before nine o’clock. Just as well, it was already nudging 30 and is now swealtering. I've done his feet, but I'm struggling with flare. They are coming in so tight at the top that I simply can't remove it all at the bottom or he'd have no hoof wall. He's just unlevelling his black back foot again, the one which was the better foot, so that hock is a bit iffy today. He is totally sound though, except for trotting down hill when he starts to twist. Nothing to worry about I don't think, there are plenty of horses out there that couldn't trot downhill and it's not something most people would ever do. I only do it because spavin is worst downhill and it's a good test of how sound he really is.
Tia's enjoying her rest. Caddy is still eating like a horse :-) His backside seems sooooooo tall now, I must measure it again. Interestingly, I was checking his feet against his race plates yesterday to see if they were getting bigger. They are, just a little. But the interesting bit is that his back feet are noticeably bigger than his front feet and they were when he was shod too. That's not normal, I've never seen another horse with bigger back feet. I wonder what it means? Pleeeze, tell me it means his front end isn't full grown yet, not that he'll always have tiny front feet!!!

Well the thermometer on my garage, in the sun, is at 100F which is pushing 38C. Rain is promised for tonight with possible storms and then lower temperatures tomorrow.
Needless to say, I am not riding. The Boys are all standing in the barn with the fans blowing on them. They don't seem to be sweating too badly. I think that's because it is not as humid as is sometimes gets.
Don't know about those feet of Caddy's. I'd have to suspect that it may well be a signal that his front end still has to grow and with it, his feet.
When I was legging Tucker up after he had some stifle issues, the vet wanted me to trot him up and down hills. I guess it works two different sets of muscles.
Do you know of the Equine Studies Institute and Dr. Deb Bennett?
I expect if you trawl through the Knowledge Base and questions and answers on the forum, or even ask her a question on the forum she might be able to give you the answer to the feet question.
How is the lump on Caddy's back bye the way?

Thanks Judith. The lump is getting smaller now that it is not constantly being irritated by a sadde with no real gullet. It will never go completley, but I don't like showing, so it will be of no consequence I don't think. He seems totally unware of it while ridden, I've tried rocking the saddle to see what happens and he doesn't seem to care.
