The tooth man cometh.

I took Tia showjump practising this morning and she was really good. I went
to a place that is not far away and just jumped a few rounds over their
course on grass. Nothing too big, I just wanted her in the swing of things for
Saturday. She was popping around merrily, even a treble.

I'm really annoyed though. In spite of the gaiters yesterday, she has rubbed on both fetlocks with the boots and they are swelling. I hope she will be OK for Saturday. It's a bit like cracked heels and they can be very painful. The track we were on is partly sand and it must have got down the gaiters.

This afternoon the dentist came. Tetley couldn't care less, as usual, but Caddy wasn't happy at all. He didn't do anything stupid, but he was trying to twist away. He has a misaligned jaw - nothing too significant, his front teeth overshoot his bottom ones by less than half an inch. But it means that his back teeth don't match either, which will result in hooks on either end as he gets older. It's clear that they are going to have to be done with a sedative when he has hooks. He's not old enough yet, but next year they may be there.

Meanwhile, he is growing like topsy. He looks a bigger horse every day. In the last couple of days his chest has started to spread and as I hoped his feet are no longer nearly so toe out as they were. I think it's a sound move to lay off the work for a few more weeks, his racing fitness seemed to have suppressed his growth and I don't want to do anything to stop him making up for it now.

OK, sorry to everyone who wishes I'd just shut up, but I just have to point out that the two latest innovations which Heather has announced for the Phoenix are the two which she went ape at me for privately and quietly suggesting were needed. The V shape filler (which she told me she was not going to do because it made them too difficult to get into the pockets) and the alternative filler material which does not compress in use. I cannot believe how much stick I got privately and publicly for making those suggestions, only now to find out that it seems EE thinks I was right after all.
Sorry, rant over.

The rant is totally acceptable. I still wasn't quite clear what all had happened...I only joined the board during the Ansur flap, as I am an Ansur rep...but as I heard from you, it wasn't pleasant. Ironic that the EE group would finally see things your way. I guess enough time passed so it now looks like "their" idea instead of yours.

Yes, I put the fill in the right place, but not enough. There was still water there. I have a about three major puddles to deal with still. Mister "oh, I can't canter through the water" doesn't like mud puddles. I just have more work to do, I guess.

My old guy has a bit of an overbite. He has had the hooks in the back but is very kind and quiet for the dentist. Caddy should be fine with a little sedation. Of course, if he keeps growing, the dentist will need a stepladder. *G*

Good for Tia, not good for the boots. That's frustrating if she needs to wear them. I've never had much luck with protective boots myself. Someone I know has a barefoot horse and uses something I think are called "Hoofwings?"

Tucker was a spookball last night. This time it was: the path to the woods, the fill I put in the ring, and the slightly akilter fence that needs fixing. Now, mind you, he has 24/7 turnout available and complete access to the riding arena during that time. Strange how all those scary things seem to come into the ring just when I want to ride. *l*

you're allowed a rant.

personally i hate it when i'm proved right

an odd thing to say, but it's happened more than once on important issues, and it was frustrating to be proved so, especially as it cost ...
