This isn't normal!
I woke at six and it was already uncomfortably warm to school. Tetley didn't need another hack and Caddy isn't safe yet to ride out. So I went back to sleep.
If we were used to this like you foreign folk, we would just get on with it. But we know that next week it will be back to 20 degrees again so the temptation is just too strong to laze away the time until we feel it is "fit" to ride again.
Looking at Caddy in the field today he has gone "long". I am used to a growth pattern of "up at the back", "up at the front", "long" and around again and again until they reach full size. He's either going to be a terribly funny shape or he does "up at the back", "long" and then "up at the front". Whatever, I don't care as long as he keeps on going up.
I'm watching Tetley carefully. I doubled his cider vinegar/devil's claw dose last time he was lame. I have cut it in half again now and I suspect he might need it as it was. I thought I saw him putting his black foot (was the better one, now the worse) down outside edge first today. I will try to summon enough energy to ride tomorrow and find out if he's sound.
Caddy is like a dog. He will come when he is called even when the other two won't. He is very , very human affiliative.
I have someone interested in Tia. I'm making no effort to sell her but if something falls in our laps I will let her go if it's the right home. I'm rather keen to keep eventing her for the rest of the season now we are understanding each other and she is trying so hard for me, so it would have to be a good offer for us both!

It thundered and roared for about an hour last night, and rained a bit. We do not need much rain, actually as we have been underwater more than once this July. It cooled things off a bit, enough to that I may try to ride later this evening....unless it storms again.
Caddy's growth spurts really do sound like a teenage boy. Good thing you are not buying him athletic shoes every week! Nikes cost a fortune.*G*
I don't blame you about not wanting to sell Tia right now. You have accomplished so much with her, it would be nice if you were able to finish the season with the success that seems so close at hand. What a great prize that would be and how much more she would be worth, both financially and practically for a new owner.
Hey, maybe you need some time lapse photographs of Caddy. Then you could string them together like one of those films of a flower opening...see the horsey grow! *G*
Sorry to tell you this Caroline but according to the weather forecast last night next week is now going to be even hotter - looks like it might break proper next Friday but no real relief until then!!
I rode at 5.30am today and we were both dripping with sweat after 30 mins - it's just so humid. Moan moan moan but I hate it?!
sorry to hear Tetley is still having ups and downs.
Some photos tracking Caddy's growth would be interesting!

Well done for getting round the event Caroline, Tia sounds like a superstar to just get up and carry on after that fall (ok you are as well.... :o)
See, good mares are worth their weight in gold...I'll get you round to my way of thinking in the end.
Regarding dressage though, plaits are a must - judges I've written for see it as a mark of disrespect if you don't plait for eventing. I could just piss off the judge enough to knock you down a mark on each movement? Sad but true.
35 degrees down in Somerset yesterday - but that's in the sun Trish!!! I was trimming hooves in a halterneck and am pretty well burnt.

Caddy is over 16.2 on the bum today and over 16.1 on the wither. When I took his shoes off he was 16 hands and half an inch, so now we know where ALL that FOOD has been getting to. I think he will end up between 16.2 and 16.3. Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The photo idea might be difficult - you'd have to get him to stand in exactly the same place every time and take exactly the same shot to see the difference in height. He's definitely getting more substance though, and that will be obvious on my next photo. Patience!!
Hi Trish, yes he's certainly a cutie. He will turn and come to me if he hears or sees me, even if he hears the gate when he is well out of sight of it.
Aaaaaah Cassie you just ruined my evening :-) !! Dont worry about Tetley, he's doing fantastically. He is a tiny bit squiffy downhill only, and that disappears once you have done one downhill trot or canter. From then on he's sound even downhill. I'm thrilled with his progress.
I think you are absolutely right on the plaits Tracey! If the judge is thinking "5, maybe 6" you'll get the 5 if you have an untidy mane when you might well have got the 6 with some plaits in. We'll have them next time!
