Even better result
Tetley is almost back to how he was before we jumped. Isn't that great? He must be almost over the spavin to have recovered so quickly. He is slightly, slightly off, but I think most people would have to be told before they would see it. I said to Jean in my comment that I set myself a rule that if the jumping made him generally stiff I would compete him, but that if it made him unlevel, I would wait. It DID make him unlevel, so I will wait, but I am very very happy with just how well he has coped and how quickly he has recovered. If there was any serious joint problem it would be getting worse for four days after, not better.
We schooled for half an hour in the blinding sun this morning and he did his bestest walk work. I'm getting some great crossing in half pass. Then I did half an hour on Tia too and she was stiff and resistant and lazy, but I worked through and got the best walk work (forward AND straight) that she has ever done. The "working through" consisted of asking her to walk out; feeling her slow up, set onto the bit and shrink her back; sending her out, which usually made her break into trot, and bringing her back to walk again. That has to be repeated every few yards at first, until she gets the message that she must carry herself even in walk.
Caddy is doing fine. He is out full time and the flies are not interested in him, or the cut, at all. Does anyone know what it is that would make a horse so unattractive to flies? They are biting the other two, but they aren't even going near Caddy. Isn't he the lucky one!
I'm still waging war with that &^%^%$& mole on my arena. I have spiked its runs with poison balls 6 times so far and STILL it keeps coming back for more. Each time it's sticking up a hill in a different place, so eventually it'll run out of places to go!! Meanwhile, it must have a terrible headache....

i missed the post about the mole. shame there aren't molecatchers about any more.
Course, if it goes from your arena it might end up in your field, which wouldn't be clever ....
I had a baby one inthe house once (brought in by cat); bit me when I picked it up to turn it out.....
Wonder what the mole is eating. Usually they don't stay around unless there is something tasty, like grubs to feed them. Maybe laying down the surface encouraged little critters to breed in your arena.
Whatever Caddy has we need to patent it. Supposedly moquitoes are attracted to the carbon dioxide the body emits. May be the same for flies? Certainly various odors are appealing to them. Maybe Caddy has a more acid chemistry and is not interesting. Either way, he is a lucky boy.
Good judgment about Tetley. But how encouraging to find he is getting better each day instead of worse. Sounds as if the hocks are well on their way to fusing.
Tia sounds a bit more like my Toby than Tucker. Tucker seems to stay supple even when I don't ride him for several days. Toby, on the other hand, needs all kinds of suppling and reorganizing after a layoff. Sorry to say I haven't been riding him much. Since I no longer intend to compete him, keeping him fit is more of a chore than I feel I want to handle. And, with all the pesky flies and mosquitoes, trail riding is not fun either. Maybe when my bug armor arrives I will be able to go out for some more hacks.
Mole count is now 7 balls. They are £1 each, so I hope he dies soon.
I have dozens on the field Claire. My neighbourin sheep farmers don't kill them, so there's no point in me trying to. The hawks we have around here now are fantastic though, the moles are disappearing the more hawks we get.
My "favourite" mole has been living in the arena surrounds for four years Jean. It's a bit unfair of me to want it gone now, but life isnt fair, is it???
I think the one thing I really should have made more of with Tia is that she had not been ridden at all for a whole week. And she was quiet and sensible after the break, which is a big point in her favour, isn't it?
