Growing up!
Caddy has grown. His wither has risen, and when I put the stick on him last night he has come up about half an inch, maybe a tad less. He is wolfing three kilos of food a day, never stops eating when he’s out in the field, and has only just managed to put a fine covering of fat over his ribs. I’m sure he is getting thicker legs and I have a suspicion that his feet are going to be bigger too. I’ve kept a shoe so that I can tell in a few months time. The first event line is now off the bottom of his foot (he grows foot like topsy - that’s an inch in less than 3 weeks.!) and they look very sweet.
Bad news today is Tetley is wonky again. Sound in walk but not in trot on the flat, only on a hill. I think we can see the pattern now of how much work makes him unsound again. I’m really looking forward to the surface being down next week, because then I can do some really decent schooling sessions in walk, giving him exercise, improving his schooling and keeping me sane without having to stress him too much.
Tia was a right madam today. She reared twice when she made it clear that she was not prepared to even try to do a canter strike off without running madly into it or flinging her head in my face. I managed to get there after a while by asking for the transition while making sure to push her forwards and down, and putting her straight into a fairly small circle. That stopped her either rushing off or chucking her head up, and after one or two like that she consented to do better transitions on a decent size circle. She really is progressing, but she is also getting more opinionated as she gets fitter. I love it!
No gravel today, we are promised more tomorrow. I hope so, we are fed up with waiting in all week for a lorry to turn up without notice. The man comes tonight to quote for spreading, so I just hope that he can do it in the next few days or I’ll just have to get someone else, my patience won’t stretch to more than another week!!

Tetley unsound in trot. Walked to triangle and back.

When you ride Tia on the flat, especially with the new ring, you will need to begin feeling those resistances well before you ask for a transition, as you know.
If the circle worked well, I would suspect she is throwing her weight to her inside shoulder when you ask for the canter depart. Working the depart from a slight leg yeild with her body while you keep her head slightly flexed to the inside should help.
What you have to do is to keep her from loading the inside shoulder when she is bent to the inside. Some proper shoulder in and spiraling in and then leg yielding out. On the "out" you can ask for your depart.
The head fling sounds like more of a balance issue than an actual disobedience.
I just love the way delivery people and repair people pay no attention to the customer's schedule an just march to their own. Hope the driver gets there soon.
Caddy is playing "weed," I guess. If he were a cultivated garden plant you would be waiting forever to see any sign of growth. ;-)
OK, so now I spelled "yield" wrong the first time. No way to edit, so I'll just scrunch down and hide behind my monitor. *G*
hope the new arena doesn't get blown off the top of that hill though!!!!
Yup, that's right jean, gluing the inside shoulder to the floor so that she simply can't turn on it, it's stuck. She does it in all the paces but it really does ruin the canter transition.
Claire, that's partly why it's grit and not any other surface - it needs not to blow away in the winter!
