Took my doggy for a walk.
I wasn't prepared to ride and get cold in the foul winter weather we have today, so I put on my walking boots and Campero and I went for a walk in the snow and sleet.We did three miles and he was very happy in his booties. He trots sound on a straight line, and his stride length is increasing as he gets more confident with landing on his heels. In the barn he is still unsound on the abscessed foot, but not very much at all, and certainly less that you would even expect. I am so relieved that he has improved so much the last few days...
In view of the weather no-one else is getting any work.
The lorry incident yesterday was terribly scary. Air brakes are supposed to fail safe, but something has gone wrong and they simply did not come on. We live on a very steep slope and it was very frightening, and an major disaster was averted only because SH is such a superb driver. I don't think I would have had the presence of mind to crash down the gears like he did, or the strength. Thank goodness he was driving, and that it didn't happen on some of the even nastier bends with precipitous drops at the side which we had been driving along to get there and back again.
It's one incident after another here at the moment. Lets hope it all calms down soon.

Glad you had nice 'walkies' with Campero. Exellent to hear of his improvement after the step back. Lets hope the steps forward far outweigh the ones backwards.
Lorry incident certainly sounds scary, hope you weren't both too shaken up, and hurrah for SH and his presence of mind.
How very scary! A man who is physically ready in the face of danger is a good man indeed!

I shook for about an hour Sarah! SH says he started shaking at lunchtime today - some kind of delayed reaction.
He is indeed a man to have around in an emergency, as Tetley knows so well!
Well if it had to happen, Ann, it was probably the safest place in the entire journey. No traffic, no junctions, not on a bend, on a short flattish bit between two extremely steep hills, close to home (outside the gate!!). On the way there is a hill which is so dangerous that it has two sand traps for vehicles to run into if they can't stop.
All we have to do now is pay the enormous bill to fix it.

An enormous bill well worth it in the end. Good brakes are such an essential, and even more so when you are transporting a horse. It will be money well spent. Lucky you found out now before you were on one of those "other" hills!!!!!
The trouble is Jean that the value of the lorry is only as much as the cost of a big repair bill. In the end it does not make sense to continue to pay repair bills on a twenty year old vehicle. We are looking for a new build. If anyone knows a cheap lorry builder in Cheshire/derbyshire/staffs/lancs/shropshire/manchester can you let me know please?

That sounds like one scary incident, glad that you had SH there and that disaster was averted. Doesn't bear thinking about, hope you find a new lorry soon.
