MINUS TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's outrageous! It's minus two, there's a windchill of minus TEN and this is the FOURTH MONTH IN ROW that it's been like this. Can you tell I'm fed up with it?
I had the incentive of hunting on Saturday to make me take Radar out today but boy was it cold! Just a hack up to a friends, a warm up in front of her fire, and a hack back down again. It's a good long ride, albeit split into two.
I have no intention whatsoever of freezing my butt off riding Jazz and in view of the snow forecast tonight I have cancelled our lesson with Sonia tomorrow.
But I do have some exciting news. I have a new horse arriving on Sunday. I have been wanting to do a navicular rehab for some time and I have been offered one. He's a seriously bad case, with not only navicular, but insulin resistance problems which have destroyed the integrity of his feet. He has soles well under 4mm thick. he is going to need his diet very strictly regulated, never to be allowed a blade of grass again in his life, and a very difficult program of fitting his work to his ability. But an appointment to be put down at the vet's tomorrow has been cancelled, and if we can get him working again it will be one of the most satisfying things that I have ever done in my life.

He sounds like a great project and well done the owner for giving him another chance. Can't wait to hear about his progress.

How very interesting! Knowing you I will wager a bet that you have a plan already for both his nutrition and the re-habilitation of his foot. How do you know the depth of his soles?
He's got xrays ML and they are measured at 3.5mm back before Christmas. And yes, of course, the plan is already in place :-)

Poor horse. This really is a desperate case. Is he actually sound in the field at the moment?
It sounds a bit like diabetes in humans and I think that one barefoot practitioner in the USA is trying to find out how much link there is between foot problems in horses and human diabetes.
As I expect you know, in humans diabetes can lead to amputation as the circulation is affected and the extremities get gangrene as there is insufficient circulation.
What are you going to feed him on?
PS News on my horse is that I sent him to Boot Camp, a local livery yard, where he goes on the horsewalker 3 times a day. Even the livery yard owner was surprised how naughty he was, as he is usually so idle!

This winter weather has been so exhausting. Day after day of misery and cold. You are brave to have ridden.
I will be very interested in your work to help Campero. Navicular is very frustrating. I am hoping your efforts will be successful. It is going to be a fascinating journey, and I'll be cheering you both on all the way.

HIsm etabolic issues need addressing before we can sort out the navicular Jean. That needs work and while he is in pain from his bones trying to come through the bottom of his feet he can't work. Catch 22. We have to break the cycle first.

Your new project sounds interesting...please keep us well updated with pictures, it will be great to see the changes and when he's all sorted it will be most satisfying for you. Goodonya for giving him a chance.

Of course he's Spanish Mandeigh :-))) 3/4 with 1/4 TB. He has been trained in Portugal and has some Grand Prix movements like piaffe.
