Twenty twenty hindsight
It’s too late now of course, but I know what I did wrong yesterday! I have been musing about why Radar was so sticky to jump when he had been so brilliant on Wednesday on his own and I go the answer just now. I was a chump!
Last time out, we were three out of five legs through the day before I even tried a fence. And of course he went brilliantly. I came out this time with expectations WAY too high, and I tried the first fence on the first leg, which he did like a deer, off all four legs landing on all four legs, and huge. He scared himself by doing that, and from then on he was not really into the jumping. Stupid, stupid me.
Still, mistake done and can’t be undone. We will have to go again on Saturday and give the poor fellow time to settle to the job before we complicate things by asking him to jump. Just because I had control, I thought he was settled, and he wasn’t.
Jazz and I have had a nice little hack in the dusk this evening. He was bouncing and happy, and made me feel a lot happier by the time I got back home.

I can't say that I would have predicted that either. The important thing is that you did realize the cause and know how to fix it. In a way that's what so fun about horses; it's always a thinking game, always so interesting!
I hope I can fix it .... I don't think he is bright enough to worry about it next time, but you never know. If I'd done that to Jazz he wouldn't jump again for a month :-(

Is it just my browser, or is your blog posting the same message over and over and over??????
Radar will do fine the next time out. It's still a learning experience for both of you. And who's keeping score anyhow? He certainly hasn't "unlearned" how to jump so just give him the time to figure it out next Saturday and he'll be right back into the thrill of the hunt.
OK....think back. How long ago was it you couldn't even canter him without thinking he'd fall down? Sometimes you need to judge progress by small steps instead of leaps and bounds.
It was right up the creek tonight. Failed messages all the time and then it posted several times. I'll be on tenterhooks until Saturday. I do hope it's not pouring with rain.

A copy of a post from Kate on one of the other copies!
"Good insight - but don't worry, he'll be fine with your new plan next time."
I hope so. I feel such a twit!
