The hunt is on!
Ooh I'm so excited. The opening meet is on in spite of the rain, and it's at a place that has it's own farm ride, so there will be plenty of jumps, all optional. It's going to be such fun to see if George recognises hounds! On top of that, the event I had already paid for but decided not to go to was cancelled yesterday, so I get all my money back on that too, and since it was fifty quid that's no small matter!
Today I schooled Zippy and George. George did some more slow walk and behaved quite well. He always loses it on the change of rein, and I had to keep flicking him with the whip to remind him to go out to the contact, but he was really quite good. I didn't work him hard or long because I want his energy for tomorrow.
Zippy took a while to settle, with the noise outside from the Leccy Board men just clearing up the last of the job they have been doing this week. But he did some gorgeous walk that I don't ever remember him doing before, withhuge movement from his shoulders. He also did a nice little bit of trot into a lovely steady contact. All smiles there.
I didn't have time to do Jazz, and I am now concentrating on the other two and putting him on the back burner for the winter or until he sells. BUT ... he hasn't even gone yet and I miss riding him. In all the couple of hundred horses I have probably ridden in my life, I have never had a feeling remotely like the one I get when I ride him. I always call his power awesome, and at the risk of repeating myself and boring everyone, I'll stick with that - it is awesome to sit on a horse with so much power held under its own control, in perfect balance. It's like a drug.
I've always happily sold horses and never once thought "I wish I'd kept that one and found out how it worked out". But I know in my heart that I will be sitting in an armchair with a blanket on my knees in my old people's home thinking just that about Jazz. I'm going to be very interested in what the trainer says in a week's time, and see if that makes it any clearer what we should do with him.

I too am exciteda about the hunt. I always thought it would be such fun. Russell R. might have been good in the field, but I haven't had a horse since I'd dare risk taking out in a group like that. All far to silly and unpredictable. (Maybe not Chance....)
Glad you are having Jazz evaluated by a good trainer. No matter what you decide to do in the end, at least you will have a really good grasp of the options.
If you love riding him so much, why don't you keep him? I have a boy I can't do fancy anything with for the simple reason that I love riding hi.m. We just pootle.
That's what riding is, simply enjoying being around and working with a horse. There's no law written saying if they can't compete, they can't be kept. You can compete the other two, and keep Jazz for the sheer love of how it feels when you two connect
Jen I know what you mean and I'm struggling with that right now. I don't feel that I can do justice to three horses in full work. I have just managed to wear George out so he won't need work until Wednesday, so Jazz will get a look in for a couple of days.
