I'm gonna KILL HIM!!!

It was well before sunrise and I crept outside into the bitterly cold and very strong wind, to find the boys still asleep in bed. Ahhh, cute. They got to their feet by the time I'd put the food in their stables, and I set to with the hoof pick. They came out of the barn still rubbing their eyes at the unaccustomed hour, but I had a turkey hunt to go on before going into work this morning, so I was well early and short of time. And didn't Zippy just know it!! He ran off up the yard, into the garden and round and round the house. Jazz mostly looked bemused and got stuck in an alternative gateway to the field, looking on. I was screaming at the top of my voice (you MUST have heard me in Scotland if not in America!) and chasing a demented horse around the garden. How on earth Superhubby was able to miss what was going on is beside me - he was in a room where windows look onto the garden on two sides - surely he cna't have missed a mad horse and an even madder woman running around and around?????? After more "fun" running into the muck heap, tractor shed, around the yards and finally back into the barn, I got Jazz into his stable. Zippy then made a break for it to get past me and back out of the yard. I shut him in the gate, right in it. That stopped him. Finally I got him in his box where I kicked him in the ribs - not recommended as a training method, but I had lost it by then! By definition, don't they always pick the day you have NO TIME!

As a Freudian last word, I forgot to turn them out when I left and had to phone home to ask SH to do it. He said they went mad and he had to shut them out of the concrete yard to stop them hurting themselves. What a stupid pair they were!

I have discovered that going crazy and losing your temper does absolutely nothing but convince the naughty horse that naughtiness is really a lot of fun. Been there, done that. My latest technique is to take a REALLY DEEP breath, surpress the urge to use four letter words, and just pretend the idiotic behavior is perfectly normal. (Tucker standing stuck in tack room, "It's OK, honey. What a good boy you are. Let's just get you out of there, huh?--very soothing tone of voice.")

On the other hand, the hysterical reaction certainly does make me feel better. The kick in the ribs would too, but I doubt Zipster was much impressed.

Must have been silly stuff in the air? At least you have the consolation of knowing they weren't much better for SH. *sigh*

Cheeky Monster.
Zippy is going to give you some hard-work ^-^ You are tough, you can get it.

If you had some basic in Western technique, I will tell you to get him in the rpund-pen and to teach to come to you on cues.

I managed to train Linda to do it, you should not have any problem to do so with Zippy monster!

Zippy is always thrilled by the idea of escaping. Once he's got somewhere he's not supposed to be, his little brain goes into overload. You can take Jazz away and put him back in the barn but Zippy will happily abandon him and go off exploring on his own - as he did. When you go to fetch him, he suddenly realises what a bad boy he has been and then he goes freaky and listens to no-one and nothing - to the extent of going straight through a stone wall like he did last February.

I've just been out to get them in. He's still hyper, I think it must be the high wind. I walked up to him full on square and he did not give ground to me one inch. So I got a headcollar and we have been doing "move away from the boss and have some respect" lessons. He hasn't eaten, but he is now behaving with some sense and moving aside quietly when asked instead of running from one side of the stable to the other like a headless chicken!

I was too tired to ride today, especially as the wind was truly wicked. I thought it was unwise to hang around outside in it with my lungs in the state they are in. I'm hoping to get down on the plain out of this wind to do some cross country tomorrow. SH is game, in fact he got very upset when I suggested that he might be too tired himself!

Progress report tomorrow!
