Good grief!
The weather!!!! Snow this morning in a howling gale. Rain this afternoon pouring down in a howling gale. I opened Jazz's stable door this morning and he just stood there looking at me and then at the snow and said "you have to be joking!". Frankly, I didn't blame him one bit :-)
Zippy was very disturbed by the weather. He was cold backed to get on and refused to settle to a decent walk. He wouldn't stand still when halted. He dashed off when I asked him to trot. I did get some reasonable lateral work on both reins though, including a close approximation to travers on the rein he found so hard two days ago.
Jazz was mostly a good boy and warmed up extremely well. He found the idea of walk/canter/walk too exciting. He consistently gave me the wrong canter lead on the right rein, until I was forced to try halt/canter to prevent him from taking the wrong bend in the walk. It worked! He just "did" halt to canter. Now there's a first. I've never even tried to teach a horse that before :-)
They are in the stables three hours early and waiting to be transferred into the barn for the night, so I'll be off to do that.

So maybe the weather fronts do cross the ocean. Your weather sounds like what struck here a day or so ago. The worst of it missed us but hit north, so that would be about right. Good to know the horses have enough sense to want to stay inside.
Zipster is a bit more emotional than Tucker about some things. But then again, Tucker has a few years on him. As well, at the moment, I think Zip is acting more on his emotion than his brain. Hopefully, with maturity, he will begin to think a little first. Each success you have in getting through to him now will pay off down the line.
Jazz is so interesting. His thought processes get all convoluted. Keeps you on your toes trying to figure out how to communicate so he will understand what you want from him.
Heather had Max trying rein back to canter... with excellent results. Jo's (the horse!) frame noticeably shortened. seems an appropriate suggestion given the subject of your post!
i think I missed some weather by going to harrogate - my mother's just rung to say snow at Blanchland, snow at her house, I'm saying "what snow?". we had a gorgeous start to the day.... went downhill from there weatherwise!!!
can't blame them for not wanting to go out..
Zipster is going to be very interesting to train, I think. He gets unsettled very easily and is difficult to "release" once he has set himself.
Jazz has a brain that gets easily distracted and is one-track. He can think about only one thing at once.
With Zip, you fix the physical, with Jazz, you fix the mental. Such a nice contrast :-)

Your making me feel bad for my two being out... although they have a nice big shed to go in if they want to AND ive opened the haylage for them:))))
I've been away again! I should be back in circulation horse-wise tomorrow.
Nicols, most of them love being out though, don't they? If AliG had to choose beteween being kept in 24/7 in Spain, which is normal over there, or out 24/7 with a shelter, even through a Yorkshire winter, I know which he'd choose.
