Getting back to some normality
I've just caught a glimpse of Tetley over the wall and he is beginning to look like a quality horse again instead of a riding school nag. I was beginning to think that he was just a very ordinary horse compared to Jazz and Zip, but he'll be a match for them yet.
I took Jazz out for a hack this morning. He was very resistant in several places, but the pelham with the chain curb is working a treat. He isn't doing anything terribly dangerous, just trying to turn round and go home, but you can feel what's in his head. Picture this - I'm down in a road with five/six foot high banks on either side. On the left is my field, and a stone wall. Immediately in front of the stone wall I know, but he doesn't, that there is a ditch three feet deep. And Zippy and Tetley (bless you boys!) come running down the field to see where their mate Jazz is going. And Jazz is thinking - "all I have to do is pop up that bank and over that wall and I'll be with them". Now that IS a scary thought. And of course on the way home they decide to come and race up the wall beside him.
Tia is in a stable today. It was horrid this morning and there seemed so little point in risking her doing anything to herself in the field before tomorrow morning. Not to mention having to get her clean again. She seems pretty settled.
Zip seems OK. He is sound on the foot. The swelling comes and goes but it smelt cleaner this morning. It's been really yukky smelling since he did it, and stuck on my fingers all day no matter how often I washed my hands ;-$ But today it was much better and washed off too. I plugged the hole with Sudocrem this morning, to zap any bugs with a different chemical in case they were getting resistant to peroxide.
Jazz continues to make the most almighty fuss about me trying to get peroxide into the split in his coronet. You'd think I was trying to kill him. What a wuss!
I'm still grinning about what a fabulous family I found for Tia. Delivery tomorrow morning. The watch out Tetley - work on Monday. He'll be so pleased!

Oh, I always love it when the loose horses "help" as you trying to ride. "Yeah, let's gallop around kicking up our heels and charge at the fence to see if we can get him all stirred up!!" Bless the mighty pelham.
Then again, if Jazz actually thought he could jump the wall, that is a potential positive for your cross country future. His brain believes, at least. *shiver as I think of what might have happened*
Good decision on Tia. The last thing you'd want is for something to happen to her now.
No heat at all in Zip's leg? I don't like the gunk coming out. There's no foreign body in there, is there? There used to be this stuff called "black drawing salve" around...don't know if it's the same thing as Icthamol...but it would be good for something like that. Don't know much about Sudocrem. Your other option would be a medicated poultice for a day or so just to draw out any possible infection. But, that would mean a bandage...

Sudocrem is nappy (diaper) rash treatment for babies, Jean. Mostly zinc oxide, with lavender perfume and some other bits in. It's done the most fantastic job on Zip today. It has melted off all the scabs and left a beautiful healthy pink hole that is nearly up to skin level and clearly growing in smooth flesh from the sides. I've got Aloe Vera on it tonight, which will increase the skin growth by over 30% as well as being anti-fungal, anti-biotic, anti-inflammatory and suppressing sarcoid tissue. I think he'll be absolutely fine. The yuk was the dead tissue that had to shed from the bottom of the hole before the top could heal. In restrospect, I don't think that stitching would have been a good option given the depth of the damage.
Just got a wonderful email from Tia's new owners telling me all the stuff that they've been buying for her today.

Uh,oh, Tia's new mom hit the tack stores already? How grand. What color are they fitting the lady out in, I wonder?
I can imagine how excited Holly must be. She isn't going to sleep much tonight. *G*
I saw that the Sudocrem was a diaper rash ointment. Around here we have Desitan which I find is almost always good for wounds. I like it too because it creates a moisture barrier to protect the wound when they are out and about. Glad to know it did such a good job on Zip.
None of the family slept, they tell me :-)
