Why? Why why why?
Why? Just why? I have ten acres of ground. Nine and a half acres of it are reasonably dry and drain well because they are on a pronounced slope. The gateway is wet, and there are two springs, but they are all easily avoided. So ............ can you tell me why they have made a mud patch at the bottom of the field, 8ft by 8ft square, with standing water on it and not a blade of grass – and made it their bedroom, standing asleep in the mud when I go to get them????????? Do they not understand that I want their feet DRY?
My cross country competition that I was due to do at the weekend at a local Riding Club has been cancelled due to wet ground (sorry anyone who has a hosepipe ban :-( ) So now the first real cross country Tia will get to do will be an affiliated one :-0 We’ll see how she copes and not ask too much, eh???? If she’s fit we’ll go cross country schooling Tuesday, then we compete local showjumping next Sunday or Monday. Perhaps one more cross country session and that will be her about ready for Rodbaston, I hope.
Tam’s being far too generous to me, but I will admit that although I was pretty sure I could get Tia to move better than she did when I first saw her, I had no idea quite how well she was going to move when her shoulders freed up. It’s mostly the schooling I think, and releasing her back, which allows her to release her shoulders. But the feet are helping too. She was toe in and dished mildly when I took off her shoes. Now she is straight and does not dish any more. She’ll never look powerful but she does look very elegant!
I've been lazy today so I have no news of either of them though they seem well enough and very happy. They are asleep in the stable with a belly full of food as I write ..... bless!

as for the mudbath - well, that's horses for you! wait till you give them a bath ....
You don't understand about the mud and barren ground....it's the same reason my horses go out in the bad weather and stand with the heads hanging, water and or ice dripping down their chins, looking totally miserable, when they have completely free access to the barn and two run in sheds. It is so passing motorists and all animal loving people will see them and tsk disapprovingly, "Oh, those poor horses. What a neglectful owner they must have leaving them out like that." Hence, the mud and wet gives them the sympathy factor.
Now, if you are the only person who sees this, you must make sure you do not fuss over them. That will only assure them that their ploy to work on the collective conscience of humankind will work. Instead, simply sigh heavily and say, "Well, if that's what you want, far be it from me to spoil your fun," and walk away.
That tactic won't do much either, but at least it will give you the upper moral hand until you have to bring them in and try to clean them up for a ride. *G*

Claire - what's a bath? Never buy grey/white horses and you never need to bath one! Casper put me off them for life :-)
