Back on stream
The sun shone today and I took both jazz and George out for a hack. Not at the same time, you understand! One foot on each, that would be interesting, wouldn't it?
Jazz first. Come closer I don't want to say this too loud in case it spoils everything .... he is turning into rather a nice hack. He looks about him, but all the really silly behaviour has disappeared. On the way home we met a ten ton truck in a very narrow spot. I stood him in a gateway and he just calmly watched it drive past.
On a slightly more cautious note, he seems to me to be feeling stones more than he was, and I am watching closely for any more signs that he is not coping with the flush of grass that the recent rain has brought on. If I think he is off form tomorrow then I will start restricting his turnout during daylight hours when the sugars are highest.
George was OK. Sensibly but unsettled. We haven't done much hacking and he starts much the same way as he starts a schooling session, tense and stompy. He walked home nicely, which was pretty good behaviour. Tomorrow he will gather his energy together, and Saturday we are off to Draycott. I'm just going to check my times.

How nice to hear Jazz is making a nice hack at last. It shows he has a good head on his big shoulders. Hope there is nothing going wrong in those feet.
Interesting that George would even exhibit his uncooperative behavior when going out on a hack. Clearly it has nothing to do with anticipating the schooling so much as just being ridden in general. You'd think he'd be a happy camper out on a hack.
Good times for Draycott, I hope?
It is interesting about George, isn't it Jean? Like you, I would have thought that out on a hack he would relax, but he is exactly the same as if he was schooling. It raises a question whether it's something physical, but it does seem only to be a psychological thing. He was markedly different once we had turned for home.
Times are great. 08.45 departure time with enough between dressage and showjumping to walk the cross country. But not too much hanging around - unless we have to wait for a rosette of course :-) (no chance, dressage is still far too rough!)
