Better.
Not the weather. That's still zero and I'm carrying water buckets to the field because the hose is frozen.
Not my health, I now have a stomach bug that kept me up all night. You do not want to know the details, trust me :-)
I meant George. Not brilliant, but certainly a whole lot better. He is one incredible over-reactor. When he arrived he over-reacted to the leg, the bit, and went spare at a whip. I've got him now to accept the leg and to a lesser extent to accept the bit. The thing that has made him more confident today is that he has got it into his head that the whip is only a reassurance that I really do want him to go forwards. So he was still quite silly and very tense to start with, but I got good work much much sooner than I have other days. I think that time will get shorter and shorter from now on.
He is certainly very odd that he is so much more confident AWAY from home. I don't think I've ever had one like that before. It's such fun to find out that a new horse can still give you a new experience after all this time and so many horses :-)

George is an interesting fellow indeed. I'm not sure I've ever had a horse better away from home than at home either, but I do know Russell R. always tried to "shine" when he went to clinics. I think the added interest of a new method, trainer, or set of obstacles to overcome always intrigued him into using his brain so much better.
Still, how nice to find one like that. George's attitude can only add to your confidence as you compete.
Now, all you need is for the weather to cooperate!
It is nice that George is making so much progress so quickly.
I wonder if he was just bundled and rushed around when the rider first got on at his previous home, so that is what he was expecting.
Shame they can't tell us isn't it?

Judith I suspect that he is oneo f those horses who naturally stand still when first ridden and have to be gentled into trusting themselves that they can safely move with a rider on board. I think they probably hit him to make him go. Poor lad. But he's getting calmer every day now and was really cuddly when he came in tonight :-)
