Does my bum look big in this?
I have turned the boys out in lightweight rugs because it is such a gorgeous spring day. I put Jazz's on him back in February for a day or two and it was getting a bit short. Today, his bum is sticking right out the back! The rug is too small, plain and simple. I know he has grown in height a bit, but not that much. I must get a stick on him and find out. What has happened is that his chest has broadened right out. I remember when we bought him I spoke about him being a little narrow chested. Now, he has a wonderful chest with a leg on each side. (well he'd look a bit odd with them in the middle :-) That expansion of his shoulders has taken up all the room in his rug, and pulled the end foward over his bum. I had to get a new one out and put it on him. The other can become Zippy and George's spare.
And while we are talking of people changing - what about George! On Tuesday of last week he had his saddle fitted to him with a slightly too wide gullet plate to allow room for him to widen out. In order to balance it, more air was put into the front airbags than the back ones. Yesterday I looked at the saddle and it definitely sat too high in front, so I have let the extra air out. In the space of just eleven days, he has changed shape quite significantly :-0
I rode Zippy today but neither of the other two. I haven't ridden him for 9 days, but he was exactly the same as the last day I rode. Such a good boy. He did some very nice work, a little unbalanced at times but nothing that you wouldn't expect from a horse who is still some way off four years old. No nerves, no unexpected tension, just lovely, naturally talented shape and paces.
Talking of nerves and things, I have left off the calcium carbonate in their feed as a test for the last few days. Zippy and George appear no different. But Jazz! He is biting everything - metal door tops, STONE gateposts, everything has his teeth marks on it. By the look of it, he is most definitely a sufferer from excess stomach acid and an ulcer risk. Of course I will be using limestone flour again from now on!
I must go - George is doing Prelim 18 and 2ft 3in jumping in a combined training on Wednesday and I haven't even got the test out to look at it yet!

Hope your rug collection doesn't grow to the size of mine. I could open a store.
Nice to hear Zipster maintains his training and his attitude. A good mind and a good body together make for a more than good horse.
Uhm, yes, it does help to look at the test beforehand. Might not even be a bad idea to RIDE some of it before the competition, just to see if you acutally can do it. *G*
Don't know your tests at all. How much canter?
The jumping should be really fun, though!

That's a nice thought thanks Claire. Unfortunately it's Combined Training, and as in eventing no caller is allowed. Stupid rule, but there you are!
Ride it? Good grief Jean you'll accuse me of actually caring what the score might be next :-)))) Seriously though, this "competition" is only to see if he will stay inside the boards, and how he reacts to warming up alongside other horses.
P18 has a circle and one side in canter, repeated on the other rein with a walk in between the two. The trot is all half circles and serpentine, so nothing for them to set themselves in. It's probably about as easy a test as you get, thankfully.

I'd be hopeless can barely remember what im meant to be doing when showing the dogs and that only involves standing them up and walking in a triangle:)))
