Is someone superfit?
Zipperoo is right back to completely normal this morning. Legs all cold and tight, no problems at all.
I've been working so I've not ridden, but I have been musing on why SH reported that Jazz was not even breathing harder after doing his 40m sprint practice the other day. My theory goes as follows -
we train a horse (or an athlete) so that the muscles get used to doing more with the same amount of available oxygen and to increase the blood supply to deliver as much as possible. So, I have been training Jazz up to do as much as he can with the oxygen that he is able to get into his lungs. He can't get enough air into the lungs, so there's a limited amount his blood supply can deliver, so his muscles have learnt to do hard work with insufficient fuel. So.......
is he already super-fit, muscle wise? It looks like it. If we can add an increased supply of oxygen he should have superb staying power!
I'm working again tomorrow so Zip will have more time off.

Interesting theory, and quite logical. I thought Jazz would be much happier in his body with enough oxygen. Why shouldn't his body itself be happier too? I am wagering he's going to go from being a Rolls Royce to a Porsche. (One of my students recommended that comparison.)
Good about Zip's legs too. I was a bit worried. He's too nice a fellow to have problems at this age.
Same as altitude training for runners and cyclists lol.
Good that Zippy is back to normal!
Mmm Porsche's are fast but small .... I think maybe Rolls Royce to Jumbo Jet?
I guess that's it Anna - they take themselves to somewhere that has less oxygen to learn to cope with it. Jazz was there without moving away from home :-)
I am dying to find out how different he is!

very logical indeed ....
thats an interesting theory!
How much longer before you can get back on?
Well in theory Mandeigh, October 31st. But having seen him doing 40m sprint practices with Zip and coming to no harm whatsoever (I can feel his throat and there's been no heat or swelling) I fail to see why he shouldn't start some walk exercise when I'm back from holiday on Saturday 20th. Superhubby thinks it's a good idea, and he is always cautious about these things and would certainly say so if he thought I was wrong.
They are well today and I have to go and muck them out now. I've been in Strangeways prison all day and I'm absolutely shattered!

ah well, at least you could come out again. why were you there?
Bet that wasnt nice!
Make sense the oxygen idea.. bet he feels great actually being able to breath properly.;)
Nice? Well not nearly as bad as I expected Nicola. Clean, bright, not smelly. Interesting - oh yes!
Claire I went because I don't believe in handing down prison sentences to people in court if I don't understand exactly what I am sentencing them to. Strangeways is a prison which houses lifers from all over the country but it's also a local prison for lower sentences for people from Greater Manchester. Someone had also asked me if I would consider sitting on the Independent Monitoring Board, a group of ordinary people who keep a watching brief over the prison. I was there such a long time because I was checking out what the Board do.

it's such a Victorian pile ... has it been improved at all though? I remember when the riots were all over the news many years ago...
It's bright and clean and airy, Claire. Every third cell has been converted to bathrooms for the cells on either side, so slopping out has ended. To anyone who wants to ask NO, empatic NO, being in a closed prison is not a soft option, no matter what facilities they have.
Caroline sorry to hijack your blog for my own means but I hope you don't mind (delete if you do obviously)
I've had to retire Robin - he's 18 now and just been diagnosed with arthritis in his knee as well as navicular and this is on top of his old hind leg ligament injuries and spavin. All a bit much for the old boy so I want to give him a chance to enjoy a retirement however long that might be....trouble is, i'm struggling to find somewhere to put him!! i'm after somewhere with decent 24/7 turnout in good sized fields, good grass, other 'retired' company, hard feed through winter, hay where necessary. Does this sort of place exist? does anyone know?
Also Caroline as teh Queen of picking up decent horses where the hell do I go to find my next tb?? I want something that has left the track and been schooled in the basics and has seen coloured poles and fillers. Apparently though i'm searching for the impossible.
Like I said I apologise for hijacking your blog but was hoping you might be able to help!!
