Oh FAN-TAS-TIC thank you VERY much
Imagine how thrilled I am. The confirmation of Jazz's hospital appointment has come through. And it explains very carefully how 1 in 100 healthy horses die for no known reason when given a general anaesthetic. Ta, I really needed to know that!
I've been working today and although I got out early I haven't ridden. I find I'm always tense after work, and I don't like to ride when I am aware that I might over-react to a bit of resistance, which I might possibly have caused for myself by my own tension! The boys are well though. I have had a major improvment in Jazz's cracked heels, which were getting worse in spite of putting Sudocrem on every day. He may be another of those horses (most of mine) that are mildly allergic to the zinc oxide in it, and it causes weeping and stops healing although it does control the infection well. I bought udder cream on recommendation of my friend with the chestnut with four white stockings, and it's made a tremendous difference in two days.
I'm feeding Jazz up a bit to compensate for a few days with a sore throat, when I'm sure he won't be eating as well as normal. He's not in any way fat, so he can well afford to carry a few extra pounds into hospital with him along with his stripey winceyette pyjamas and his teddy bear.
I've just received a great fat package of stuff in the post about Scooby. Loads of photos showing him looking extremely well and jumping brilliantly. And some DVDs of him doing dressage, showjumping and cross country. He looks fabulous, but I wouldn't swap either of my current boys for him, which I'm pleased about. But I do feel very proud of him, because I spotted him "in the rough" as an unbroken 3 year old and got him through to being qualified to go Intermediate and he's justified my faith in him being a really class horse.
Tomorrow I am going to ride my friend's horse, which I'm looking forward to because of the change, and the facilities which I get to use for free because I'm riding a livery. So we'll have Rocky's diary tomorrow :-)

My PJ was under general anesthesia twice and came through fine. The second time he was about 23-24 years old. I'd guess it's just one of those things they have to tell you.
Don't they give ice cream and geletin for sore throats after surgery? You are going to have to find out what flavor Jazz likes best. *G*
Scooby should make you feel proud. It's pretty evident you have a good "eye" for a horse, even when it's not in good flesh or mature.
Didn't Jazz react badly to the zinc oxide once before when he had a wound? I seem to remember something like that.
Looking forward to Rocky's story. That should be good fun.
Fab news about Scoobs I really liked him. Nice to know they are keeping in touch. What about the big man? Have your heard from Mary Lou recently?
I did work experience in the vets as a teenager and watched a wee dog go under the anesthetic and just slip away, freaked me out. But that was nearly 20 years ago and now anesthics are so much better...even so I was a bit worried about my hedgehog getting anaethnatised (geez my spelling is crap) last week but as soon as they took him off the gas and on to oxygen he came around in a couple of minutes.

It was Caddy with the zinc oxide, but also Scooby before him. I think it must be pretty common. The cracked heals are improving every day now I have stopped using it.
Yes Mandeigh, I hear from Mary Lou all the time. Tetley has learned to pee in a bucket when he comes in - even if she just leaves it standingin the middle of the stable !!!!

Heggie was being treated for ringworm! He's semi naked at the mo, but finally the hair is starting to grow back. Poor wee man.
