Ugly ducks and swans
First of all, this is the most unphotogenic horse you've ever met! It's impossible to get photos that do him justice, but here we go with a try to get across what he's like now. OK, here's the underdeveloped two year old we bought, just a day or so after he arrived.
I've put this one in to show you the amounttof bone he has made over the summer. He seems to have concentrated on developing substance for the last few months, because he does not measure any taller than in the spring. His legs do not now match his body. If he grows into them, he is going to be wonderful.
Well no luck on a head shot, but see the neck, the huge sloping shoulder (his back end is raised on the yard, it slopes more than this shows) and the short, powerful back.
And someone else kept getting in the picture, but this one, without him parking out, shows the short back even better.
What you can't see from the pictures are how his ribcage has sprung outwards and his whole body has got wider. He's already got a fantastic top line for a 3 year old. I got some head shots and couldn't believe how ugly they came out so you're not seeing those! He's got a pretty, araby face with a slight dish.

I had a good friend take pics of my boys. She is a very good photographer and took a whole roll of film. Out of some 30 pics I think we only had about three or four that really showed off my (then only 2) boys' real assets.
You are right, Zip has put on lots of bone! Is ig going to be a really big solid fellow. I like all his angles and the length of his back. It's proportionally longer than Tucker's which is good because Tuck's is really too short. But still it should make strong and well able to collect and carry himself from his hind end.
His body is really filling out. I know we can't see all of it, but he has a deep heart girth, a great shoulder, and good slope to his croup. You're right. He is one nice horse.
Keep taking pics. Sooner or later you will get one or two that make him look as glorious as he is in person. (or is that horsen?) *S*

He is lovely! Even from that first two year old photo, even tho he lean and underdeveloped that he has great underlying structure.
That is what the just turned 3yo colts I'm working with look like, lean, but you can tell whats there...

Sounds like you've really fallen for him too..Jazz s going to have serious competetion for the top slot I reckon!?!

Yes, the head being on backwards can make it difficult to steer. I wish the colour was a better match too.
He's a superb horse, so I am very happy with him. But character wise he is very different from Jazz. Jazz says "oh but you love me, you know you do, go on .... admit it!" and Zippy says "love me please, oh please, just love me". So whilst he is gorgeous and sweet and kind and gentle, I can never help falling for Jazz's utter self confidence in his loveability!
There's only 8 months between the first photos and the others. I think he's done pretty well, and is catching up to where he should have been if he hadn't been held back by early weaning, or something else. He still has four more peak growing times to go, two autumns and two springs, so I think there's a lot more to come yet.
I've been too busy to work them today, and I'm working tomorrow so that's probably out too.

the difference in the 8 month time period is amazing.
(and btw, it isn't that your blog is not interesting! i have very very limited internet time - i feel like i'm in a scramble just to keep up with everyone ;) )
