I am SO annoyed - they have messed up on the dates the surgeon is available and have now put it back a week. I need it done and out of the way for my own peace of mind. And so that I can get him working again in time to make something of the rest of the off season before we try and compete him next year. They didn't even aoplogise, either, which made it so much worse. Honestly - he's at a conference - coudn't someone have found that out before!? I wouldn't have minded if they'd given me that date in the first place, but to book for earlier and then put it back is awful - I can't even trust that date now, can I? Until the actual day arrives I'll be expecting them to move it.
I was so angry this afternoon that I had to take myself out and DO something, so I went to another horse hospital nearby to talk to them. They don't do the laser hobday, so there would be a hole in his neck. On top of that, although in general their facilities are much better, they don't have the newer V shaped operating table that my vet has, which reduces muscle damage from them lying too long on their sides. And the no-brainer is the surgeon really. Although the price is the same, the one I am waiting for is a specialist horse surgeon used worldwide, and the other one is a general vet who also operates.
Ah well, shut up and put up Trayes!

OK, OK, calm down. I KNOW how frustrating it is. I had a similar problem when trying to get surgery for PJ's infected tooth. Top it off, the University hospital where we were going to do it had a salmonella outbreak and couldn't do it at all in the end. Had to start all over again with the more local surgery center. Turned out much better in the end, however.
Think of the afterwards, not the beginning. The time will acutally fly by if you don't dwell on it. (Easier said than done.) Write up a plan to keep yourself occupied. Set up little things to do each day and see if you can accomplish them (Gee, I shoulda done that this summer!!)
You will be far better using the better surgeon with the advanced technique. Wish I could hold your hand to comfort you just for a little while as I feel your pain.
It will be OK. Patience is the hard part.
OOH, meant to suggest. You might also want to see if you can arrange a chiropractic or massge session for Jazz soon after he comes back. Sometimes, as it did with PJ, the contortions of getting them on the table, off the table and the recovery can make them muscle sore or go out of adjustment.
It would be nice for him to have some nice physical therapy aftercare. PJ needed both acupunture and chiropractic.

Caroline i'm so sorry that your Jazz has to have surgery :(. Muriel notified me, as she had read about my own horse developing respiratory problems. definitely WAIT for the better surgeon! (this advice from a surgical nurse!!!)
are there piccies of Zippy anwhere here? i backtracked to Casper's story (i had no idea!! 'glad to have read that), but decided to leave off there and come post.

Thanks Jean, I'm calmer today :-) I think a few massages will be well in order for Jazz, and I have been taught to do them myself so he'll get some over the period of his rest.
Trish I have to write stuff you find interesting enough to log on to read - don't apologise :-) !! Nice to have you back.
If you can hang on a few days I plan to get some more photos of Zip, because he is completely different now than he was a few months ago when the last photos went up.
