When the wind blows .........
Well if you live in Britain then I hope that you still have your roof! We don't quite have all of ours. We have ridge tiles off in the centre and three edge slates went flying through the air as Allan was watching them. He had to rope the tractor shed roof on to stop it flying away, and several tin panels on the field shelter are flapping in the breeze. Zippy's stable has lost some "tiles" from the roof but they were STONE slabs of considerable weight and it is impossible to believe that the wind was so strong that it could lift stone slabs, but it did !!!! I found a plastic box of mine with 12 solid metal jump cups in it (a heavy weight, basically) blowing around the field this morning. It sure was windy!!!
On the good side, because of the wind my friend Linda couldn't take her lorry to her riding lesson with the horse, so we were forced :-) to go to a major riding equipment store up the M6, Derby House. I got Zippy a new rug to replace the one he trashed yesterday at £35 (a bargain!), and a new crash hat for me that I have been overdue on safety grounds for some time. We had a great lunch there, but then we couldn't get home! Every motorway in every direction shut. Finally we made it back by a circuitous route via Wigan in three times the time that it should have taken.
I am very pleased with the Zippy rug. It fits him really nicely on the chest, but it is way too long at the back where it doesn’t matter. So, if he doesn’t trash this one, then it should still fit him next year. It is beautifully deep and just the right weight and he looks very cute in it.
Tia came in more unsound again last night but I still couldn’t hit the spot with a needle. This morning there was a definite soggy spot exactly where I had already been aiming and I got a scalpel into it and produced a great gush of liquid that should not have been there. I was going to keep them in today, but what she needed more than anything was a wet mud poultice, so I turned them out. Sure enough, she has come in much sounder tonight than she has been for days. A bit of hydrogen peroxide in the hole for a few days, and all should be sorted :-)
Jazz has had the day off but was as cute and cuddly as a bunny this morning. I’m getting the pattern now – he is like that every morning after we have had a battle that I win the day before – isn’t that sweet?????? I am so looking forward to riding him again tomorrow.
Also I must get a stick on Zip. He seems to be just EEEEEEnormous this last couple of days. He is growing at a rate of knots now he has a bellyfull of food twice a day and ad lib haylage all night. What an eyeful he is going to be one day, I am so pleased that I bought him.

I am not enough of a hoof expert to make comment. So I won't. *G*
Jazz is cute. I'd guess he sees you every time you win as more of the herd leader and hopes to ingratiate himself to you. And, if he really is a bit insecure, knowing that you are there to make it all right is even better. If this keeps up, you two are going to have an amazing bond of trust between you.
Zippy will have to take care of his new rug for a whole year? A season? A week? A day? I hope it lasts long enough to fit next season. *lol* Kids and their toys.
That wind sounds dreadful. Good thing Alan was not standing in the line of fire when the tiles blew off. I know it must be depressing, but if no one was hurt, that's good. The roof can be fixed. People and horses can't. I think that's what worries me the most about heavy winds. I am always worried that a tree branch or something else will come crashing down on someone.
This winter's weather has been bizarre. Today, we had our first snow fall. Just a dusting. Now it's warmed back up (6:30 PM) and it's raining. The temperature just keeps bouncing.
8 people died in all yesterday Jean, purely as a result of the weather. As you say, what are a few tiles off the roof compared to that. We got away lightly in the end, considering how totally exposed we are.
