Expat Zippy.

Poor Zippy. Two weeks and six days on the road or waiting for the next stage and he has only just arrived in Tenerife. But his new Mum is thrilled with him and he is eating and drinking well.

The last leg was pretty horrific - twelve hours in the lorry getting to the ferry and 38 hours on the ferry (200 miles from Spain mainland to Tenerife) and then another couple of hours to get to the stables in Tenerife. Apparently he refused to eat or drink all that time. I'm glad I didn't know that until afterwards!

If I still had other buyers in the pipeline (as I did this time) I wouldn't let another horse of mine be exported with such a dreadful journey. When she bought him I just thought he would be flown there. I had no idea there would be days and days in lorries on the road and days and days in lorries at sea too. It must have been terribly stressful for him.

Still, he's there now and he is happy and healthy, so that's him set for life in the sun. I am promised photos and updates of his competition successes (first one planned for four weeks time) so I'll be updating you about his progress.

Poor Zip! Thank goodness he is eating and drinking now. That journey must have been very stressful! Was it the only way to get him there, then? A plane would have been so much faster than that.

Four weeks to competition? Seems like not much time considering, but I'm sure he will be fit, shiny and ready to go by then.

As for the journey? Who knew? The best laid plans...and all that. Glad he is safe now.

My goodness, that is a long time! If I take Tetley with me I intend to find out before just how long it will take. At least Zippy is there and is settling in so no need to worry now.

He's Zipper Lane, but I don't think Tenerife's results will be published anywhere Claire. He's gone as a Gucci handbag to show off to all the other riders. I'm sure he'll win, but I'm not sure it will count for much on an island which is basically a volcano stuck off the coast of Africa :-)

I wouldn't let another one make that trip. I was sure she'd fly him since we all live so close to Manchester Airport, but no such luck poor fellow. He was sold before I realised it was a road trip she had in mind.

Tetley certainly wouldn't have two ferry journeys to add to the land trips, at least ML. And the flight would be shorter than either of the ferry trips, with a groom in attendance and not stuck in the back of a lorry.

I wouldn't put one through that again Mandeigh. I feel bad about it, but it's over now.
