Cream crackered
I've spent over two hours non stop on the arena surface today. I want to finish it so that I can get on with the room I am redecorating indoors. As long as the weather is so good it makes no sense to paint indoors when there is stuff to be done outdoors, so I just got on with it. No-one has been ridden, I just felt more like arena tending. It needs eight more barrowloads and then it is all done. I'll have between 1 and 2 tons left as a contingency while I see how it wears in. If I haven't got enough I won't hesitate to buy another ten tons now I know how easy it is to spread and how brilliant the surface is once it's done. (Thanks Zippy! :-) I'm really looking forward to riding Jazz out there tomorrow now I don't have to stick to the paths I laid down first. It should be fun. And I can start practising Elementary 42, which we will be performing in public on July 8th.
Jazz has been making some faces at having the girth done up, so I checked his girth and found that he was bending the edge back near his elbow. I wasn't happy about that, so I bought him one of these girths as a test:
I am amazed that so bent a girth fits on the horse as if it were straight. It only goes to show how much a straight girth must pull in all the wrong places. Anyway, he has shown a marked reduction in irritation at the girth, so it's a complete success and I've now bought Radar one too. Longer of course :-) They are made superbly, with a brilliant design, and terrific value on eBay direct from Heritage at £50 including postage.

Yes it's as good, top class leather and construction. My dressage instructor commented on it and she buys Passier! It slips if you don't do it up tight enough and the horse breaths in as you get on, doesn't it Radar?????

I've got one very similar to that and it's lush, I love the way it sits around their armpits, I don't think I'd ever want to use a straight one again.

Wow, I admire your tenacity. Then again, the spectacular results with both of your boys is pretty strong motivation.
So Jazz shows on the 8th! Looking forward to that. May his hunting manners with other horses hold him in good stead at the showgrounds.
Girthiness...probably was the potential chafing, but just keep the ulcers in mind. You might want to dose Jazz before the show and after. It is a recommended practice when the horse undergoes any unusual stress. I use the Professional Choice girths with my treeless saddles because they don't slip...unless, like certain horses, the horse I am riding pulls the "I'm a big boy holding my breath" when you do it up. *G*
I'm with you Tracey, I'm going to have to sell all my straight girths now!
I nearly hit the floor Jean - he was just waiting for me to put my foot in the stirrup, the baaaad boy :-) George used to do it every time, so you are watching for it, but it was a first for Radar.
