Surprisingly enjoyable
I popped across the road today with Jazz, onto my neighbour's fields. They were very wet, but ont he flattest part at the top he had allowed a whole season's grass to grow without cutting it, so there was a great thick mat of dead foliage on the top. Luckily, that meant that we didn't make too many footprints and I was able to give Jazz a really nice canter. I was surprised how much I enjoyed myself.
I took Zip down the road and it was like riding a plank. He set his back like a board for the whole ride, no swing at all. He was spooky and silly and insisted that there were furry horse-eating bracken-monsters in the clumps of dead brown bracken on the banks. I was, once again, immensely grateful that he does not have Jazz's physical strength or strength of will!
Jazz had another clipper lesson and was much better than last time. I'v got him tied up now, and the lines are getting straighter as he fidgets less. Isn't it the most fun thing in the world when you get horse stubble in your eyes from clipping under a belly :-( !!

I actually used to put on a full rainsuit and button up the neck and sleeves every time I clipped a horse. Otherwise, I and anything I was wearing would be coated in little snippies of horse hair!
So now Zip takes over Jazz's spot as "no fun hack of the week." Ah, well, just a year or so and he too will grown up a little....*sigh*
Good idea Jean - a biological warfare suit! Perhaps I can pick one up cheap when they withdraw from Iraq???

Reminds me - because of the dry climate (semi-arid) in Colorado I always put on lip cream. Not a good idea when you are clipping or they are shedding in the spring.

How very fetching - furry lips :-)
