Bugs in rugs
I haven't seen any more bites on any of the horses since I did the menthol powder dusting. It really seems to work, that stuff. Remember I had to buy it when Zippy brought us some this time last year?
I took off all their rugs this morning to let their skin breathe. I didn't take off Jazz's vest, but I undid it. He ended up with it hanging around his ears like a huge pair of knickers - very sweet :-))) I had no trouble getting them all back on. My shoulder is even more mobile and less painful today. I even managed to push a wheelbarrow loaded with haylage. I can't pull it, but pushing it was fine. I muck out one-handed into a standard bucket and tip it into a trailer, so that's easy too. SH is doing the picking out of feet for me - that's one risk that I'm definitely not prepared to take. If they pulled back with their foot in my left hand, it would rebreak my shoulder blade for sure :-000
Poor George is odd man out still. The other two really don't like him at all. I have been leaving the lights on for him because the other day he came out of the barn in the morning missing two eyebrows. Two separate incidents, on opposite sides of his head. It hasn't worked, this morning he has more damage to one of them. I am going to offer him the chance to stay in his stable tonight. He'll kick the door if he wants to go into the barn with them, so we'll know what he wants, be with them and be a punchbag, or be on his own in peace and quiet. I know what I'd choose in his place, but horses are such herd animals I suspect he'll kick the door to be let out.
I've got no urge to ride yet. Tomorrow, Monday and Wednesday are all spoken for. I think I should avoid Tuesday anyway, given that Wednesday is out. So maybe it will be over a week after the injury before I'm back in the saddle :-)))

i seem to recall it took me that long (over a week) before i could get my bra back on!
If I were George, I'd enjoy the night separate from the bullies. Then again, as you said, I am not a horse either.
Chance is sort of "odd man out," but the herd dynamic changes easily. He and Tucker play a lot together and sometimes, he and Toby hang out while Tuck goes off by himself. Don't know why horses have to mean to each other when there is plenty of food, room, and shelter to share. Kind of like humans--always wanting more?
I am fairly amazed about how well your shoulder is doing. Wonder if that is common for the kind of break, or the specific bones you have broken??
Glad the world is keeping you off the horses for a while yet. Bones do take time to heal/knit. My wrist was 6 weeks.
I haven't a clue what's normal Jean. The surgeon gave me morphine tablets and seemed to be suggesting that I'd be pretty much in agony for at least two days. That never happened, so all bets are off on what happens now. I know my metabolism is running at superspeed because I keep drinking and not peeing (too much detail, sorry!) and that's a sure sign for me. The weight loss will prove it! I guess I'm pouring energy into fixing it, it certainly feels like it.
Bra was on, hooked by SH on Thursday. Hooked at front and rotated back by me yesterday. Put on almost normally (bit painful!) today. We'll see what tomorrow brings :-)

Yikes, sorry to hear about the shoulder and glad to hear that you are mending like superwoman :-)
Andy swore by red wine (for medicinal reasons) when he broke his hand, loads better than painkillers, but maybe you don't even need that ;-)

blimey, caroline, you must be made of steel. I meant, I couldn't bear the strap on the shoulder (never mind difficulty in doing it up!). my "bump" is just under the bra strap, so you can imagine what that felt like!

Yep Horses are horrid between them, males play fight a lot, Females pull faces they usually are less physical.
Maybe it has something to do with reproduction instincts, the stronger gets the girls ^-^
Nic, I swore by a glass of red wine last night. "Bl**dy hell this is good wine." :-)
Claire my bump is further back over my shoulder, but I can even press on it with no real pain. I put proper jumpers on this morning and I've taken them off again too - yes, over my head. I can't lift the arm upwards far, but otherwise it's pretty mobile.
I don't think George would be getting many girls then Muriel. Maybe he's gay?
