Am I getting old?
I am finding that my attitude to my horses is changing rather radically in the last year. I used to be very unhappy about looking after a horse that couldn't work, but these days I find that I am increasingly letting days go by when I'm happy just to see them and then turn them out again without riding. I am appreciating them for themselves and not for what they can do for me, I guess. I expect there will be a lot of people who never felt any different than that and will wonder what planet I come from. From my side, I am understanding why you will have found me puzzling, or even irritating, more and more.
Today I enjoyed mucking out for the first time. The horses had been extremely happy to be in the barn overnight, I could just feel them radiating their satisfaction when I went out this morning. Then I had to nip down to court to remand someone in custody for a number of nasty offences which he was caught for last night (committed some days ago but went on the run). So I turned them out and have no intention of getting them in again to ride, I'm going for a walk instead.
Caddy is puzzling me. Inside the barn it is clear just how much bigger a horse he is than Tia. I have spent a lot of time walking backwards and leading him towards me to try to analyse what is wrong with his gait in front. I've come to the conclusion that it's very subtle and may well be his feet, which need another 3 or 4 months for the new, bigger, different shaped one to reach the floor. He is for sale on Horsemart, but there is no interest in an untrained ex-racer at this time of year and I am not desperate to see him gone. If he stays, it will be interesting to see just how he develops because there's certainly a really nice horse waiting to grow up.
So there you go, no horse news, just a musing really.

its great taking the pressure of yourself. I haven't ridden for 3 weeks. The weather has turned colder and the days are already shorter and work is as busy as ever......but at the end of the day just going up and dottling about my guys is the best stress reliever going, if I feel like riding I will.....often I don't. Now that I don't compete anymore I just enjoy having the neddies.
And horse watching is a great way to spend some time...better than sitting at this bloody computer for hours on end!
I have been bad and sad.
First bad because I am supposed to show tomorrow and I haven't ridden Tucker in three days...some due to laziness and the other due to some phyical issues which kept taking me to the chiroprator.
But, the worse was yet to come. This morning when I went out to feed, I found PJ lying dead in the paddock. Poor baby. I guess his old heart just finally gave out. After the miracle recovery from the colic, two months of life and now this. Needless to say, I am heartbroken. He was my boy for 21 years. It's not easy thinking of not having him around.
May his pastures in heaven be full of green grass and may it be swift beneath his feet.
Now, I don't feel like going to the show tomorrow at all, and I haven't yet ridden today. (5PM, US time) Don't know what I'll do. I have to worry a bit about leaving Toby here home alone if I do go, as being without PJ will take him some getting used to. It's looking awfully lonesome out there. :-(
oh jean, what bad news! awful.
But, he went out happy, I guess, and what more could you want for him?
Jean I am so sad for you. I'm pleased for PJ that he had a quiet and peaceful end in his home paddock. But it doesn't make it any easier for you to cope with. I'll be thinking of you.

Ann, you book a bit far ahead don't you? Do you mean a PMG clinic in 2007????
Sheila - relaxed? Yes, I like it. I'm not OLD I'm RELAXED.
Mandeigh I'll think of you next time I feel guilty.
Jean, my message above is for you and PJ, it deserved not to be mixed up with general chat. I hope you are feeling better soon.
