Well blow me down.

There I was, thinking seriously about taking Jean and Judith's advice and starting to explore what might physically be wrong with Tia to cause her to throw her toys out of her pram about trotting across a diagonal. And today she came out of the stable and was absolutely perfect, accepting half halts, staying in rythm and outline, and producing the best half an hour's work she has ever done :-) :-0 ! The quality of the trot was beyond any expectation that I had of her when I first got her. She was a daisycutter and I thought she always would be. Today she had some terrific suspension. OK, we were indoors (while it thundered, lighteninged and lashed down with rain outside) and she prefers that surface to the grit, but this was truly sensational work compared to anything she has done before. Maybe she needed to lose that fight yesterday? Who knows.

Caddy - oh well he was just superb, working far beyond any expectation I had of him at this stage either. What bend, cadence, willingness to learn, flexion. The suspension is building too - what he will be capable of once he is grown and strong is something to really look forward to .... I may have bought a class dressage horse !

Tetley - had devil's claw yesterday and is definitely sounder today. Also appears to be stiff (not unsound, and no-one who didn't know him would count this as stiff because he has a huge movement) in BOTH back legs, which again is new. I think it is better than being definitely off in one. Anyway, it didn't stop him doing fantastic walk work and some sparkling semi-collected trot.

You'll have guessed by now that I had a good afternoon :-))))))

C

ps moly update - the bleach down the mole run stopped him building again in the same place. It also stopped him for twice as long as average from building anywhere else. And it's a darned sight cheaper than gas balls. I'm pretty sure that I can persuade him just to go somewhere ELSE on the field if I keep on using it on new hills.

Not to spoil your day, but PJ was good one day and bad the next when he was having muscle soreness. Just be on the alert if Tia throws another tantrum. Just keep the idea in the mix.....

But it's great to hear you so happy with everyone! How lucky you are to have three nice horses all at once. Then again, you are younger than I am, and three is still fun. I keep riding one and never get to number two. (Toby...not that he cares.) Oh, where oh where is the lost energy of youth and only one slightly bad knee? (Gone with the years.)

When do we get some new pics of you in the saddle on: Tia, Caddy, and Tetley....doing stuff like....uhm....schooling on the flat? Eh? Huh?

and what fun are pictures of schooling?!?!????!?!? :-) If you wait a couple of weeks I'll give you pictures of Caddy's first party.

I hope this isn't the case with Tia and that you have cracked it but I also noticed the pattern that Jean describes with Saff when she was getting sore from the saddle. Now the soreness has gone the good day/bad day thing seems to have changed into just good days. Like I said, I hope that isn't the case with Tia but I thought I'd post about my experience with it being so similar to Jean's in case it was relevent.

Jean - my knees play up from time to time and I'm only 23! I'd like to think that slightly dodgy knees don't make me an old woman before my time...

Can't wait to see pics of Caddy's first party, he's a stunning horse (not that you need telling that!) and it sounds like he's going to make a great competition horse :D

I confess to 57 years. I hurt my right knee when I was about 14, so I was used to that. Then about 6 years ago, I wrecked my left knee pushing a wheelbarrow. I have had surgery on both and neither one is really good. Most of the time I try to ignore them, but I can't run and a lot of walking makes them really sore. (No ACL in either one.)

However, I am still training a 6 year old Thoroughbred, so I guess I'm not totally useless yet. *G*

By the way, I have had both prolotherapy and stem cell therapy on my knees and both work. So if you are having knee issues, consider that route before surgery. They work better if all the cartilege is still in the knee.

Nearly gave up on my own ride tonight. The kid spooked at something in the woods and didn't want to go back near that end of the ring. Since there's no one around when I ride, I'm a bit cautious about battling such things out. Fortunately we did manage to finish the ride off and then I handwalked him past the spooky spot. What a goofball.....

Caroline, she's a woman.......there's no reason for being bonkers every now and again - that's normal ;o)

Tracey you're a disgrace to female emancipation :-):-) :-)

Em interestingly, Tia has been rugged all day in the sunshine because it was cold and raining when I left this morning, and her back has come up in heat bumps. I can't help wondering if that is actually painful/irritating under a saddle even when they are not raised. It's a possible explanation for why she always starts so lacking in forwardness.

I've been in court doing case after case after case after case of speeding and no insurance and driving with no licence cases. I'm rigid with boredom myself now and have nothing horsewise to report.

ps whoo, Jean, I doubt if stem cell treatment for a knee is even available in this country - sounds very leading edge for our health service!! And what is prolotherapy?
