Spaniel in the works.
Zippy was fine today. I took out a load of carrot slices to give him as treats when he stood still on command. The trouble was he took the carrot and just held it in his mouth instead of eating it. So he ended up with three carrot bits, which he didn't actually eat until after I'd got on! Fat load of good that was, eh?
Basically, he appeared to say to me "well if THAT's what you wanted why on earth didn't you say so before! What are you, stupid or something?" He was really very good. He also did some nice work and inside the barn he managed to trot a bend with a lovely shape to his neck and feel on the rein. Grand.
Jazz and I went out for a ride. A lady had a pair of spaniels which she was trying to keep out of our way in a gateway. That was the worst thing she could possibly do of course, because he could see them darting out every now and then and he definitely thought they were the horse-eating variety. He whipped round and ran for home, but he only got 2 or 3 strides before I pulled him up and turned him round and went to meet them. He is getting better and better to hack. The rest of the ride was completely uneventful, but very enjoyable with the white hawthorn blossom out everywhere.
We are supposed to be going to a local cross country competition tomorrow but the weather forecast is truly disgusting. If we do go, I have a surprise for him :-)))) Superhubby has fitted a board to the lorry partition that will stop him bashing the partition leg. I, meanwhile, have bought a pump action water pistol, and if he persists in pawing during the journey I'm going to shoot him with it from my seat in the front! I don't know if it will stop him, but for a quid in Poundland, it seemed worth the try.

Try sugar. I will melt in his mouth...that is if you still need it after that training session...uhm, who is training whom?
Horse eating Spaniels, eh? Can't say I've ever met some of them. A mouse, yes, a spaniel, no. *G*
No certainty about Chance yet. He trailered beautifully to the Park--big show going on. Behaved wonderfully and is definitely lame in his right hind. He is confined to his stall and the run-in shed...really nice in the hot summer, actually. He'll have about five days of bute. Then my vet comes back out on June 4 and will do nerve blocks to try to locate the source. No reaction to acupuncture points. No heat or swelling anywhere. Positive reaction to hock/felock flexion tests, but on a scale fo 1-5 lameness, he is a 1.5 maybe going to a 2 with the flexion.
I still hate hind end lameness. Yuck.
Oooh. Sounds a)expensive and b)frustrating Jean. What a shame it'snot in his foot, that would have been a lot simpler than higher up.
